The first step in S.I.T. Meditation is to sense your consciousness and to distinguish between Consciousness and Awareness. Consciousness is that which contains awareness. It is a higher order function. Meaning it comes before awareness. This order of consciousness first and awareness second is very important for the S.I.T. practitioner. In order for the practitioner to truly sense something, they must first come to consciousness and then direct that consciousness toward sensory phenomena or the object-of-sense. When consciousness falls upon objects-of-sense, awareness arises.
